This piece appeared on 2nd of April, 1933 in the Madras edition of The-Hindu. Dr S.Srikanta Sastri writes about methods of teaching "Culture". Dr S.Srikanta Sastri calls culture an "activity of thought and receptiveness to beauty and human feeling" and goes on to say that, culture therefore is a "synoptic science" going "beyond science".

By the age of 22, young Srikanta Sastri had published his first article in Journal of the Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain & Ireland, London. He would go on to author many more hallmark works later on. Notable of these were the "Bharathiya Samskruthi", "Purathatva Shodhane" & "Sources of Karnataka History, Vol I & II". He actively contributed to journals of various institutes around India such as "The Mythic Society", Bangalore and "Oriental Institute", Baroda.

Welcome to the official website of Dr S. Srikanta Sastri, M.A, D.Litt, (1904-1974).

A renowned historian and a polyglot, Dr S. Srikanta Sastri contributed profoundly to the world of historical study and research. Fluent in over 14 languages from ancient Greek, Latin, Hittite, Pali, Sanskrit to modern ones like German, French and Russian-he was at home researching and writing in several languages at once. From his attempts at deciphering the Indus script to understanding Egyptian hieroglyphics, he had the unique ability to correlate and interpret sources in their perspective. The vast number of articles and books that he churned out bear testament to his intellect. Not surprising, that many of them find catalogue at distinguished libraries around the world from the Bodleian at Oxford to Library of Congress at Washington D.C.  Nearly four decades after his passing, his works continue to serve as rich resource material to scholars around the world. We hope you have a fruitful time reading through the wealth of material about him and from his writings that we have listed here for your perusal.

To mark the centenary of

Dr S.Srikanta Sastri (1904-2004),

Mythic Society, Bangalore hosted

a symposium offering a platform for distinguished historians, indologists, sociologists and intellectuals alike to

Dr S.Srikanta Sastri

present papers as part of a tribute to a great historian. These events were covered in the print and electronic media extensively. An excerpt of one such reporting (PrajaVani-Kannada Daily) is shown here.
